HEAVY META Day 9 // 24.10. 2010 -- Brunch auf Berlin
Greetings from our last day in Berlin's lovely Gartenstudio . We've had an incredible time here, and Brunch was the most spontaneous and unexpected brunch ever.
Berlin Brunch
Sometimes Research Club events turn out to be small and perfect -- more like a game to make an excellent conversation between a handful of people than an event. So we were happy to have Per Schumann from Entwurf Direkt present the history of his collaboration with Malte at Gartenstudio to a room of friends, and our excellent travelling companion Careen Stoll gave another wonderful talk about her amazing kiln. But we were honestly a little disappointed that we hadn't caught more of the amazing activity in Berlin in our net. But we'd judged things too soon, as a series of late arrivals and spontaneous presentations proceeded to astound us with ingenuity, wit and serendipity. As we were later told by many Berliners, that's the Berlin way. Show up late, blow everyone away.
Neighbor Stephan shared the video he made for an amazing project in Italy called La Caravana and gave a charming and sensitive account of his visit there.
Conductor Elise Gauthier-Villa called for collaboration for her attempt to produce a multi-media symphonic performance in Berlin like previous events she had produced, curated, and conducted in New York and London.
Then, when we thought all was over, we had an exceptionally entertaining and interesting presentation by Martin and Maria of Morgenvogel Real Estate.
In the end, the room contained an Italian cello-playing medical student, international video artists, local art students, a surprising number of toddlers, and the most poly-lingual brunch-chatter we've had yet.

Berlin Interviews
I've had the honor and the pleasure of picking the brains of directors at two of Berlin's most Lückological institutions.
On Thursday I spoke with Paula Hildebrand of Ueberlebenskunst. Their many projects, including the Call For the Future, and the Vorratskammer are, in content and structure, exactly the sort of thing that gets Research Club going. We shared the Glowing Sushi Project with them, as it was right in line with the Vorratskammer.
Sunday I met with Nicole Cohen of Berlin Collective and learned about their fantastic business of taking ideas that want to come to Berlin and making them happen. They facilitate artists who wish to work in Berlin, create and host talks by visiting artists, and catalyze an excellent array of unusual projects, including some very interesting alternative education opportunities.
Both interviews were dense with excellent ideas, so we will post them in sections. Check the blog!
More new friends -- Etsy Berlin
The amazing people from Etsy have set up shop in Berlin, and have admirably and generously opened the doors to Etsy Labs to many community projects, including our partners Grand Detour. They gave us a tour of their offices, and told us about their excellent meetup network. The seed of Research Club Berlin? We'll see...
Finding out,
